After three years at Armature Works, the Union by Commune + Co. café in Tampa Heights is moving.
The store, home to staff headed by Joel Davis of Tampa, who first imported a cold, pressure-brewed, nitro-delivered beer to the Bay Area in 2014, made the announcement on social media. Tuesday, adding that her last day of service at the Hall Food is the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 7.
Union’s first day of service at the Pickford counter, located at 2606 W Hillsborough Ave., between the Wellswood and Plaza Terrace neighborhoods, arrives even earlier on January 11.
âWe will certainly have more to say about this and other new projects. Right now we just want to finish strong in a house that has served us well, âUnion wrote on Instagram. “Cheers!”
The move comes as Davis plans a collaborative Get Along donut concept in Seminole Heights.
Union’s move into the Pickford space also means that Josh Weaver of Bandit Coffee Co., who was consulting on the retro-style over-the-counter coffee program when it opened last summer, will focus solely on operations of his store in St. Pete, making room for Davis and his team to fully develop the coffee options in Pickford.
Bandit coffee has a long history in Union and other Bay Area stores, with Davis calling a recent batch of Bandit coffee one of the best he has ever used in espresso at Union. Bandit beans, roasted by Brennan Dielle, will no doubt be part of the new location’s offering.
âWith all the madness of the pandemic, it worked out perfectly for Bandit and us,â Davis told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay. âA win-win for all. “
âEveryone at Union is friends and we love them,â Weaver told CL. âGlad to see what they’re doing at the Pickford counter.â
Creative Loafing Tampa Bay has contacted Armature Works representatives for more information on who may be moving in.
