Government intervention sees the municipality placed under administration under Article 139 (5) (a) and (c) of the constitution.
This comes just six months after the municipal elections.
Former Finance MEC Mmoloki Cwaile previously placed Madibeng into administration in 2020 and appointed Paul Maseko as administrator.

The leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA) caucus in Madibeng, Jan van Rhyn, meanwhile said he welcomed the intervention and strongly supported it as he hoped to see an improvement.
He says the finances of the municipality should improve and lead to better service delivery.
MEC Finance Spokesperson Linah Miga, Tsholefelo Mathibedi, confirmed to OFM News that the municipality has been placed under administration and the provincial treasury will handle day-to-day operations.
North West Economic Freedom Fighters Secretary Papiki Babuile told OFM News it is high time for municipalities to appoint qualified people to leadership positions to avoid collapse, and that politicians should stop interfering in the day-to-day operations of municipalities.
