Gunmen relaunch attack on police division in Anambra

On Friday, unknown gunmen returned to attack Uli Divisional Police Station in Ihiala Local Government Area, Anambra.

The robbers had launched an attack on the community on Thursday but were repelled by a combined team of police and a vigilante group, a source told NAN.

The gunmen then regrouped and attacked the police station in retaliation for this humiliating experience.

Confirming the incident, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, police spokesman in Anambra, said the attack was foiled.

Mr Ikenga said the station is still standing and there has been no loss of personnel, adding that one of the operational vehicles, a Lexus 330, used by the attackers, was recovered from the scene .

“The station is in good condition and no personnel or weapons have been lost,” Ikenga revealed.

He said that Echeng Echeng, the police commissioner of Anambra, praised the staff for their bravery.

He assured the firmness and willingness of the command to strengthen public security and peace in the state.

“Due to the superior firepower of the police officers, the attackers abandoned one of their operational vehicles, a black Lexus 330, and fled.

“In the meantime, the area has since been fortified by command officers and operations are continuing,” Ikenga said.
