Fuel pump dealers on indefinite strike in Bikaner division, Energy News, ET EnergyWorld


Jaipur: Fuel pump dealers in Rajasthan’s Bikaner division launched an indefinite strike from Monday to assert their demands, including the 6% VAT cut imposed on diesel during the year Covid lockdown last. Gasoline pumps in Bikaner, Churu, Hanumangarh, Ganganagar, Jhunjhunu, Pali and Jalore districts remained closed to support demands.

Some gasoline pump dealers in Jaisalmer and Nagaur districts also took part in the strike and kept gasoline pumps closed for two hours.

The nine demands include a ban on the sale of illegal diesel, a ban on smuggled diesel from the Punjab and Haryana, a single price for fuel, the rate of VAT on the Punjab and Haryana lines. ‘Haryana, a six percent reduction in VAT imposed during lockdown.

Rajasthan Petroleum Dealers Association board chairman Rajendra Singh Bhati said the protest would continue until demands are met.

He said diesel and gasoline are cheaper in neighboring Punjab and Haryana states compared to Rajasthan, which encourages diesel smuggling.

Bhati claimed that diesel smuggling continues due to declining fuel rates in Punjab and Haryana, affecting the sale of fuel pumps located at the state border.
