Deeping Rangers provided the perfect answer to last week’s league defeat at Skegness as they bounced back to score a brace.

The Clarets continued their midweek cup success against Bourne Town with a 4-1 home win over Heanor at the Haydon Whitham Stadium on Saturday.

Although they fell behind in the Lions’ opener in the seventh minute, they were back level within eight minutes after scoring from a free kick that reduced the visitors to 10 men.

They then scored twice more before the break and added a fourth second-half goal to keep their hopes of a top-six finish alive.

Boss Daniel French said: “It’s been a good few days for us and we played very well in both games.

“The sending off helped us and it affected them when we scored right after as well.

“But then we kept our foot on the accelerator and it was the best we’ve played in terms of keeping things simple.

“We didn’t overcomplicate it because sometimes you can get a little jaded when you’re playing against 10 men and trying to do things you wouldn’t normally do, but we were very effective.”

Rangers had started brilliantly but fell behind when they struggled to clear their lines and Lewis Rourke pounced on the loose ball to score the opening goal.

However, Rangers reacted strongly and after coming close to leveling twice, the impressive Jake Showler was taken off as he escaped.

Reece Horne was shown a red card and Robbie Ellis – who had another outstanding game for the Clarets – fired home the resulting free-kick.

Luke Steele then had his header superbly saved by Rio Alberry in Heanor’s goal following a cross from Showler before Rangers hit the forward 10 minutes before half-time.

Jake Brown was again in fine form for the Clarets and his cross picked out the equally impressive Will Bird, who headed in Deeping’s second goal.

A penalty was then awarded for handball just before half-time and Bird scored his 20th goal of the season to give Rangers a 3-1 half-time advantage.

They continued to dominate the competition after the break and had chances to extend their lead even further before adding a fourth after 71 minutes.

Substitute Ta’i Williams swung in a high cross that eluded everyone and curled into the net to seal a win that kept Rangers strong form.

Manager French added: “We’ve only had two defeats in the last nine games since December 11.

“After this weekend, it could only be two losses in three months that everyone would have suffered.

“We are in a very good position and, with seven games to go, that means we are definitely looking up rather than just letting the season end.

“Saturday’s win gave us real focus for the rest of the season to get into that top six.”

Midfielder Jake Walton has left Deeping to join Division One Blackstones.

Clarets: Swan, Flack, Bloodworth, Wilson (Coulson), Hunnings, Burton-Jones, Showler (Williams), Steele, Bird, Ellis, Brown (Pancho).
